04:30 AM (Carpool Departure: 04:30 AM @ Somerset-Bridlewood Park & Ride, West side (to be confirmed). I drive a White Prius that can accommodate 4 persons.)
The objective is to complete the Mount Haig & Gravenstafel Ridge loop. This scranbling route is rated moderate, and most likely all dry by now. We will not bring mountaineering axes. We will move at a moderate to fast pace.
Distance: 13 km, 1,500 m gain, 9-10 h
Route info:
Andrew Nugara's More scrambles in the Canadian Rockies, pp 97-100, also Mount Haig, Gravenstafel Ridge Nugara's trip report
Weather forecast: very warm (+25C at 1,800m elevation) and no rain in the forecast. Winds picking up to 60 km/h in the afternoon. The smoke forecast is moderately bad across the whole Eastern Rockies, so the smoke will likely slow us down.

Required Items to Bring:
Helmet, proper footwear, layered clothing, food, lots of water (3 liters min), sunscreen and sun hat, scrambling gloves, toque and neck warmer. With the warm spell these days, I am ok with bringing no rain jacket & down jacket for this mountain outing. A toque and neck warmer should suffice if we have to stay overnight on the mountain.
Recommended Items to Bring:
At least 1 pole for the steep descent

Event Directions:
We will meet at 4:30 am in Southern Calgary at a location yet to be determined, but likely the Somerset-Bridlewood LRT Station. I live in Marda Loop/Garrison Woods and pick up participants along the way. Leave by 4:40. The drive from there to the Castle Mountain Ski Resort is 2h 25min/220 km.
Carpooling fee: 220 km x 2 x $0.21/km = $90 divided among all vehicle occupants.
