We're planning to hike in Sunday and out Tuesday with a possible day hike from the campsite on Monday. Group will include babies & young children (11 mos to 6yo) with parents and is open to all ages. We do not need to hike as a single group. Elk Island Park is in grasslands just east of Edmonton about a 3h15m drive from Calgary. It's the location of an important heritage bison herd that is the breeding source for much restoration of bison in Banff and other parts of the North American plains. The hike into the campsite is about 4km and relatively little elevation change. A great outing for anyone new to backpacking or looking for an easy trip for any reason. There will be an option to coordinate food & water purification sharing. If you have any physical limitations for carrying weight we may be able to organize load sharing as well. See the link above for contact number to the park if you'd like more details on the location.
Please note - The coordinator will be at the ACC GMC Aug 11-25 and may not be able to respond to any correspondence during those dates. Campsites are already booked & payment will be coordinated directly by e-transfer.
Required Items to Bring:
Tent/shelter, layers, water systems, possibly cook system, comfortable hiking shoes, backpack, food etc.
Attendance for single night possible.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
Trip Feedback If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
