Course Content: A one-day course to provide more complicated concepts
pertaining to improvised rope rescue techniques so in order to deal with cliff-side
emergencies. Techniques to be covered include a quick review of escaping the
belay, lowering and raising systems then move onto more complex systems like
knot passes, block and tackle and rope ascension. There will also be scenarios
to apply and practice all of the skills.
Prerequisite: Participants must have taken an Intro to Rock Rescue course in
the past year or have a comprehensive understanding of tying off a belay device,
escaping the belay, raises, lowers and various knots like tied-off munter and
munter mule with prusik.
Required Items to Bring:
Equipment: harness, helmet, belay gloves, belay device with locking carabiner,
6 locking carabiners (3 HMS/Munter), 4-6 non-locking carabiners, two 5m x 7mm
cordelette, 13.5” Hollowblock (or 1.5m x 7mm prusik), two 120cm sewn sling, one
60cm sewn sling

Sean Isaac is an ACMG alpine guide specializing in ice and mixed instruction. He has been ice climbing for 30 years and guiding for the past 20. He is the author of the ACC « Ice Climbing Leaders Field Handbook » and « How to Ice Climb » by Falcon. He has also written the how-to book « Mixed Climbing » and the guidebook « Mixed Climbs in the Canadian Rockies ».

Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.

Participation in this activity is subject to you having a current membership and a current signed
