For those of us headed to the glaciers this spring and summer, this crevasse rescue practice will test your skills and consistency in performing a crevasse rescue in a 3-person rope team scenario.
The session will be 2-hour long, and we will run a basic scenario several times, using mostly the drop loop technique, moving from 2:1, 3:1 to 5:1 hauling ratio.
The session is not intended for those who want to learn from scratch. Participants are expected to have taken at some point a 1- or 2-day Crevasse Rescue 101 course with a mountain guide (examples: ACC Calgary course offerings, PeakStratagem Crevasse Rescue Basics Course, UofC Outdoor Centre Crevasse Rescue 1, Yamnuska Mountain Adventures One-Day Crevasse Rescue Course – Essential Alpine Skills).
