“From ‘prime of life’ to ‘aging gracefully’ – 55 years with the CMC”

Tuesday, February 17, 2026, 7 pm start.

Ironwood Stage & Grill

Judy and her show: A proud CMC legend, Judy first encountered CMC members in Yosemite in 1970. In 1971 she climbed with Bugs McKeith in the Rockies (North Face of Edith Cavell) and the Bugaboos.

Her transition from Yosemite rock climber to ice climber (first ascent of Masseys) was with Jack Firth and John Lauchlan, and then to a ski mountaineer (with wooden skis and three-pin bindings) with Kathy Calvert, Don Gardner, Chris Shank and John Lauchlan.

Judy was a keynote presenter at the Whyte Museum last year for the CMC Night (you can see that presentation on the CMC youtube channel)

When some CMCer’s set their sights on the St. Elias Range and Denali in 1977, Judy, Kathy Calvert, Lorraine Drews, Diana Knaak, Cathy Langill and Sharon Wood decided to ski up Mount Logan, perhaps meeting up with Chic Scott’s team on the summit!

In 1980 Judy and Elaine Brook made the first ascent of Millachuma (5800 m) in the Bolivian Andes. Judy then settled down to finish her bachelor’s degree at UC and moved onto studying cultural adaptations to high altitude (Ladakh and the Andes) and finally, with Nic David, anthropological and archaeological research in the Mandara Mountains of Cameroon and Nigeria.
