Itinerary:

Mt Kenya Adventure – to the True Summit – July 18 to 26 – 9 days, 8 nights

Unlike Kilimanjaro, which sees tens of thousands of trekkers each year, Mount Kenya remains refreshingly uncrowded – no queuing for campsites, no overtaking porters, and no headlamp traffic jams on summit day. We are planning a trip to the true summit of Mt. Kenya, the second highest peak in Africa, this summer in the middle of their dry season to increase the chance of good summit weather. We plan to attempt the commonly climbed sub summit Point Lenana (4,985m) and then carry on to the true summit, Batian (5199m). Ascending Batian requires several pitches of easy technical climbing, and then 3 short pitches of 5.9. We will be lead by experienced local climbing guides who have been trained by the US NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) and are on the Mt Kenya National Park rescue team. There will be one guide per two climbers. Accommodation on this climb is 3 nights camping and 3 nights in nights mountain huts (Shipton`s camp). Nonetheless, if you prefer to camp you can do so on all nights on the mountain. Tents (3 man) and sleeping mats will be provided. Our small group size means that our 3 parties of 3 (2 climbers plus their guide) will each have 2 chances to summit. If we are all a successful on the first day, then the second day will allow for some extra hiking and exploration around the high camp.

The cost of the climb is US$2050

The price includes:

-Transport from Nairobi to the mountain and back.

-All Park fees.

-Food (3 meals per day while on the mountain)

-Accommodation in mountain huts/camping where required

 -Technical climbing guide, Cook, Porters.

-2-night accommodation in Nairobi hotel before and after the climb(B&B) sharing

Risks on this trip include altitude, political instability, rock fall and having to listen to Steve’s jokes for the one millionth time. Note that priority will be given to those who attend the Rwenzori expedition.
