Itinerary:

A one day dryland clinic to train and prepare rescue systems for the upcoming ice season. skills.  Techniques to be covered include escaping the belay, emergency lowers, tandem rappels, raising systems and damaged rope rappels. Course content can be adapted to the experience level of the group.


Required Items to Bring:

Prerequisites: this course is suitable for all experience levels from novice to advanced climbers.  No lead experience is necessary.  Knowledge of standard knots and hitches is recommended (clove hitch, prussik hitch, munter hitch, figure-8) but not necessary.


Equipment: harness, helmet, belay device with locking carabiner, 6 locking carabiners (3 HMS/Munter), 4-6 non locking carabiners, two 120 cm sewn sling, one 240 cm sewn sling, two 60 cm sewn slings, 13.5” hollowblock (or 1.5 m x 7 mm prusik), one 5 m x 7 mm cordelette

Sean Isaac is an ACMG alpine guide specializing in ice and mixed instruction.  He has been ice climbing for 30 years and guiding for the past 20.  He is the author of the ACC « Ice Climbing Leaders Field Handbook » and « How to Ice Climb » by Falcon.  He has also written the how-to book « Mixed Climbing » and the guidebook « Mixed Climbs in the Canadian Rockies ».

No refunds are provided unless a suitable participant can be found.


Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
