The instructor for this skills series is a Jeff McKeough, an ACMG guide from PeakStrategem, who has assisted the Calgary Section in the Alpine Mentorship Program (AMP). Participants will be instructed and coached to learn and develop their skills, in order for members to be active participants in, and potentially lead, safe and successful trips.
Full day of multipitch efficiency training and rope rescue instruction, including: review of the knots and hitches required for multipitch climbing - figure eight, rethreaded figure eight, figure eight on a bight, overhand, overhand on a bight, overhand on two strands, slippery overhand, clove hitch, girth hitch, italian hitch. anchors for direct anchor belay, multipitch climbing, multipitch rappelling including the stacked rappel, the tied off italian hitch, including belaying, long raise using a progress capture belay device, a short raise using a "block and tackle", rope ascension using a progress capture belay device, tied off italian hitch, belaying and lowering with an Italian hitch, lowering with a redirected belay device, the counter balance rappel, and the tandem rappel.
