Itinerary:

Alpine review is not first come first on the weekend.  The nature of alpine climbing and the limited number of spots means that each participant will have to be vetted by the individual volunteer trip leader.  There will be trips for novice and intermediate alpine climbers! 

Friday:  TBC.  1 of the volunteer leaders has the day off so could be setting off from Bow Lake to hike in around 1pm.   I will confirm with the other 2 leaders what their plans are.  It could be we have some people able to walk in around 1pm and others later in the afternoon.  It is an 8k walk in to the hut with a height gain of 400m. 

Saturday:  Refreshing alpine skills

Sunday: The focus will be on putting these skills into practice on a peak.  There will be an alpine start to give enough time to climb a peak, pack up and hike back out to Bow Lake. 

**More information on proposed trips will be added next week once the volunteer leaders have had chance to look at objectives etc.**

Costs are $145 (appx).  Final cost is dependent on how many participants are accepted on the trip.  This covers accommodation at Bow Hut. (Participants are subsidizing trip leaders costs for their bed at the hut).

Once you are accepted on this event payment should be made by using the PayPal button below, once payment is received you will be moved onto the event.

Required Items to Bring:

Enough food and drink for 3 long mountain days and also dinner for Friday and Saturday.

Stoke and sense of humour!


Technical equipment list will be sent out closer to the time.


Recommended Items to Bring:

All the things you'll want for a long few days in the mountains. Food and water, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, bear spray, camera, etc.


How to Get There:
Carpool Departure Time:   10:00 AM
Carpool Location:   We will meet at location TBC and head to the Icefields Parkway.
Carpool Directions:  

Car pooling will be organised when we have the group of participants finalised and the volunteer leaders know what time they are able to set off for the Parkway.

Rock Climbing

·       Rockfall

·       Rockfall can be caused by natural forces, or by people travelling through the terrain (e.g. climbing/scrambling/hiking). What are the risks? Impact from a falling rock can result in injury or death and can also damage equipment such as ropes.

·       Terrain

·       Trees, forest deadfall, and tree stumps

·       Creeks

·       Rocks and Boulders

·       Variable and difficult walking terrain

·       Impact or collision with other persons or objects

·       Encounters with domestic or wild animals

·       Contact with poisonous flora or fauna

·       Loss of balance or control

·       Slips, trips and falls.

 

·       Falls and Belaying

·       Rock climbing presents the risk of falling from the wall causing the climber to collide with the wall or ground, which can lead to injury or death

·       The risk of belay failure is also present which can contribute to the risk of a ground fall

 

·       Communication, rescue and medical treatment

·       Communication can be difficult and in the event of a accident rescue and treatment may not be available

·       Adverse weather may also delay the arrival of treatment and transport out of the field

·       If an Injury occurs in challenging terrain movement to an evacuation point may be slow

·       Infectious disease contracted through viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi which may be transmitted through direct or indirect contact

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines! *Note: Once payment has been received by the treasurer you will be moved to the confirmed list. There will be no refund for cancellations. Courses will run regardless of weather unless the guide deems conditions unsafe then a back-up option may be executed. This is to be decided by the guide the evening before.

Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement.
