Itinerary: |
Warm weather, lots of daylight, the snow/ice is melting quickly,
and most of us have put away our skis and are yearning for
some alpine climbing.
Now is the time to start getting in shape, and one way to do that
is to do some trail running!
So let's see if we can get together a group to zip up and down
the High Noon Hills out near Sandy McNabb.
This will be a run of 8-9 km with about 1000' of elevation gain.
It will take us about an hour to drive to the start point, so we'll
begin running about 6:00pm, which will allow a generous two
hours to complete the circuit.
No experience is required, and you don't even have to be a
marathoner (I am certainly not) -- some walking is permitted if
necessary. But it is a run that will be sometimes on animal trails,
sometimes through meadows, and sometimes through forest:
there will be deadfall, protruding rocks, patches of snow and ice,
gopher holes, and even some minor bushwhacking. Be prepared
for variety of terrain -- this is not at all like running on
pavement.
I will try to have blown-up contour maps for everyone, with
handrails located, and we will work out 'buddy' strategies at the
car-park. I have surveyed part of the run, but there will be
regroup choice points where we may decide to try new routes.
There are also excellent views of the Front Range to be had,
along with a challenging workout.
This is a rain or shine event -- but in case of rain the course will
have added another dimension of difficulty.
And there's always the opportunity for food and drink in Turner
Valley or Black Diamond afterwards

Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
