Itinerary:

Meet at Carpool for 0730 am, check and ensure everyone has safety gear, skis, skins, food and water. Drive to K-Country, possibly Tryst Lake area. Do a quick avalanche rescue scenario first thing and then perform group checks and start skinning shortly after sunrise to maximize the day. My intentions are to assess the travel conditions, snowpack structure and observe previous avalanches that were noted in a recent AvCan MIN report. I would like to dig some snow profiles in treeline terrain and if possible in alpine or terrain representative of adjacent alpine terrain. If there is time and it makes sense then we will get a ski run or two before a turn around time of 1445 (2:45pm).

Required Items to Bring:

Avalanche transceiver (must be modern 3 antenna and have at least 50% battery life at the start of the day), avalanche shovel, avalanche probe. Touring skis, skins, poles, touring boots, backpack 25L+, layers and gloves to stay warm, these items must be in good serviceable condition.

Others items food, water and any medications you might need.

Recommended Items to Bring:

Hot tea in a thermos.

Helmet rated for ski touring.

Snow science equipment if you have any.

Field note pad.

A great attitude and a willingness to learn and practice skills.

Notes:

There will be time as stated previously to do a quick companion rescue scenario before stepping off from the trailhead and if you have any questions about that process I would be happy to answer or direct you to the resources that will help. This would be a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more and practice weather, avalanche and snowpack observations and recording. As well as get some early season skiing in.
