Come join us at the Sequoia Supply shop on Tuesday December 10, as we continue to build a backcountry community and produce networking opportunities, while aiming to provide valuable insight, provoke thought, and promote discussion. Come anytime after 6:45pm to socialize and network - the presentations will start at 7:00pm and aim to wrap up the evening by 9pm.
This month's topic is; Backcountry Navigation Clinic with Neil Warren (ACMG Ski Guide and CAA Professional Member)
PRESENTATION: Neil Warren (@neilwarrenskiguiding) is an ACMG Ski Guide and CAA Avalanche Professional based out of Calgary, and is also the owner, designer and main craftsman at local mountain gear company Alpine Threadworks (@alpinethreadworks), and also recently launched Alpine Endurance (@alpine_endurance), which is science based endurance training designed to help backcountry skiers/splitboarders and mountain bikers realize their fitness goals.
Neil is going to provide an evening clinic focusing on the following topics: - An overview of the mapping app "Caltopo", known as the most advanced planning tool for backcountry travel, used by recreational users but also in Search and Rescue. The App is free to download and use, with the option to add paid premium content. Neil suggests downloading the App ahead of the clinic and be able to follow along during this portion
- Making time based decisions in the field
- Identifying skiable terrain just by looking at a map
- Landmarking ski lines
- Terrain based navigation
This clinic is aimed at all skill levels, ranging from beginners to experienced mountain backcountry enthusiasts.
