Itinerary:

Thanksgiving weekend scramble! A moderately paced scramble up either Commonwealth or Rimwall peak. Check out Kane's book for more information. Both objectives are approximately 5-8 hours and the choice will be made based on weather/conditions closer to. 

Aim to leave YYC around 7am. Arrive at Trailhead. Hike + Scramble and return back. 


Trip will only run if conditions are conducive to a safe & fun time, as both are primarily south facing we would expect them to be clear of snow as long as the current fall conditions hold. 

Required Items to Bring:

Helmet, layers, food + water, sturdy boots.

Notes:

Please send me a brief email (john.mcmechan@yahoo.ca) describing your scrambling comfort and experience and list a few representative scrambles you’ve recently completed. 

Depending on trip interest preference will be given to people I have done trips with in previous seasons as I am only back from the West Coast for this 1 trip this year.


Hazards include:

·       Rockfall

·       Rockfall can be caused by natural forces, or by people travelling through the terrain (e.g. climbing/scrambling/hiking). What are the risks? Impact from a falling rock can result in injury or death and can also damage equipment such as ropes.

·       Terrain

·       Trees, forest deadfall, and tree stumps

·       Creeks

·       Rocks and Boulders

·       Variable and difficult walking terrain

·       Impact or collision with other persons or objects

·       Encounters with domestic or wild animals

·       Contact with poisonous flora or fauna

·       Loss of balance or control

·       Slips, trips and falls.

 

 

·       Communication, rescue and medical treatment

·       Communication can be difficult and in the event of a accident rescue and treatment may not be available

·       Adverse weather may also delay the arrival of treatment and transport out of the field

·       If an Injury occurs in challenging terrain movement to an evacuation point may be slow

·       Mitigated by

·       First Aid Training

·       Rescue Training

·       Satellite Communications

·      Slips, trips and  falls both outdoors and indoors

·      Infectious disease contracted through viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi which may be transmitted through direct or indirect contact

·      Equipment failure

·      Negligence of other people

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
