{Please note on our calendar the Nov 13 "Powder Review 2025 - Call for Volunteers"
event. Consider joining that event to help shape this Powder Review event and make it happen now and
in future years. Many hands makes light work.}
This almost annual event is happening again! We have the entire Wheeler hut Friday and Saturday nights (Feb 28 to March 2). Saturday night we'll have beer and wine for refreshment, a group dinner and we'll dream up some fun events and get to know each other better. 24 of us :-)
Details will follow.
Strong preference for attendance will be given to ski trip leaders able to lead.
All participants must have AST-1 training as a minimum requirement, be able to ski black diamond runs at a resort and preferrably have several years backountry skiing experience.
Some folk may ski Friday as well as Saturday and Sunday. Most folk will likely head out from Calgary after work on Friday, arriving late Friday for the 1 km skin in on the mostly flat terrain in the dark. [Rogers Pass March 1: Sunrise-7:33am, Sunset-5:31pm (Calgary time)]
Cost for the weekend should be about $140 per person. Details to follow.
Required Items to Bring:
Your skis or splitboards, the usual safety gear (beacon, shovel, probe), food, clothing, toiletries, sleeping bag, headlamp, perhaps ear plugs, hut booties, plus whatever else may be required as details emerge (eg: glacier travel gear if planning glacier travel, and a to-be-planned contribution for the Saturday night group dinner).
The hut provides sleeping pads and a "fully equipped" kitchen with propane lights, stove and oven, pots, pans and cutlery, and a woodshed with wood and wood splitting axes for woodstove heating, so those items you do not need to bring.
Sklin up the trail from the parking lot for about 10 v-m to the flat abandoned rail way right of way and stay left then follow this for about 1 km, cross the little bridge over the Illecillewaet River and arrive at the hut.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
Trip Feedback If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
