Updated Dec 17:

The Wheeler Hut Powder Review, an almost annual event since about 2006?, has had many themes.  This year be prepared, its a:

     Toga Party Ski Party!

Romans, Athenians, Countrymen, lend me your skis!

We've got some powder to shred and a toga party to revel.

  Hail to the shredder!

When and only when you are moved to the attendee list, to guarantee your spot please pay using the pay pal button below.

$130 buys you:

- Friday and Saturday night (Feb 28 & March 1) at Wheeler Hut in Rogers Pass.

- Saturday night group "coordinated pot luck" dinner and toga themed costume party.

We have the entire hut to ourselves.

    With beer and wine refreshment.

Ski, network, feast and lounge, imperial style.

Be a Powder Review legend, win the best costume prize  : -)

There is no formal carpool.  See the discussion below that may informally help you arrange car pooling on your own.

There is no formal Friday skiing for this event.  See the discussion below that may  informally help you to coordinate any skiing on Friday on your own.

Many folk will likely head out from Calgary after work on Friday, arriving late Friday for the 1 km skinning in the dark.  One advantage of a later arrival this is that it will be easier to find parking spots after most day trippers to the area leave.

[Rogers Pass March 1:  Sunrise-7:33am, Sunset-6:31pm (Calgary time)]

Watch out for it! - - - Logistical information will be requested of everyone by email sometime in January.  Results will be listed and shared back to assist with carpooling (which you must arrange on your own as the event has no formal carpool), to assist with coordinating for the group pot-luck dinner (lets not go hungry!), and to coordinate each day's ski parties (Friday ski parties, if any, are considered as separate from Powder Review and must be arranged on your own).

Tweaking the logistics list can proceed as required and be shared back to everyone again until all are happily organized - leave no one hungry, leave no one behind.

The latest version of the Ski Party list will be printed out just prior to the event and posted to the hut wall with a pencil for any final changes (upon agreement from all affected day trip leaders).

Strong preference for attendance is given to active trip coordinator/leader volunteers, without whom there would be no trips at all.  Thank you, trip leaders/coordinators.

All participants must have AST-1 training as a minimum requirement, be able to ski treed terrain and black diamond resort runs and preferrably have several years backountry skiing experience and be comfortable with at least ~600-800 v-m/day (that would be the slowpokes group - yours truly ; -).
Required Items to Bring:

Your skis or splitboards and skins, the usual safety gear (beacon, shovel, probe), food, clothing, toiletries, sleeping bag, headlamp, perhaps ear plugs, hut booties, plus whatever else may be required as details emerge (eg: glacier travel gear if planning glacier travel, and your to-be-planned contribution for the Saturday night group dinner).

The hut provides sleeping pads and a "fully equipped" kitchen with propane lights, stove and oven, pots, pans and cutlery, and a woodshed with wood and wood splitting axes for woodstove heating, so those items you do not need to bring.

Recommended Items to Bring:

That big bad smile!  And your toga!

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

The parking lot is at (click on the following link):   Illecillewaet Valley Parking

Skin up the trail from the parking lot for about 10 v-m to the flat abandoned rail way right of way and stay left then follow this for about 1 km, stay left across the little bridge over the Illecillewaet River and arrive at the hut.

The hut location is at:  Wheeler Hut

Notes:

Attendees, please expect an email to follow in January with key logistical questions for you (travel plans, prefered meal contribution (from our set list), ski tour preferences).

Your response will be required
for coordination of the Saturday Night Group Dinner as well as the draft of ski party memberships for Saturday and Sunday's day trips from the hut - this helps ensure that ski parties do not get too big or too small and that no one is left behind.

Hail to the Victor!  Go big or go small there's powder for all.
