Located in a stunning area just south of Mount Assiniboine, Mt Brussilof and Alcantara are two towering 3000m peaks that will make for a stellar remote scrambling experience. Mt Alcantara is regarded as an excellent 3rd class scramble via the SE ridge, with David Jones' Rockies South book suggesting is a 2 out of 3 star (excellent) route. Brussilof is rated as PD+ 5.0. Vern Dewit (Explor8ion) says Brussilof is one of his all-time favourites. You should be very comfortable on difficult, loose and exposed scrambles in the Canadian Rockies. There are some crux sections on Mt Brussilof that we could consider using a rope for. Rough plan is as follows: Leave Calgary Saturday late morning, drive out to the Aurora Creek trailhead (road has re-opened on Aug 9 following fire closures in the area). Hike/bushwhack up to an amazing camp/bivy site next to a lake near the alpine. Relax Saturday evening. Wake up early (5AM?) on Sunday morning, scramble to the Alcantara/Brussilof col, attempt Brussilof, then return to the col and attempt Alcantara. Return via Alcantara S slopes to camp, pack up and exit. Beta: explor8ion.com for Brussilof, explor8ion.com for Alcantara |
