We will meet either at the Valley Ridge ODR at 8:00 AM to carpool from Calgary, or at the Heart Creek parking lot at 8:45 AM.
The base plan is to climb at Jupiter Wall, which hosts a great selection of 5.10s with a few 5.9s and 5.11s as well. There is risk of afternoon rain in the forecast, so we'll try to get as many laps in as we can before we get rained out. After we've had our fill of the Jupiter Wall, we can venture to other zones within Heart Creek if time and weather allow.
To join this trip, you must:
Know how to lead belay, preferably with an assisted braking device
Know how to safely clean a sport climbing route
You do not need to lead any climbs if you don't want to - I am happy to set up top-ropes for anyone who doesn't want to lead. However, you should be capable of (or willing to try!) TRing 5.10s as there aren't many options below this grade at Jupiter Wall.
I can bring 2 ropes and ~20 draws, but please let me know if you also have ropes and/or draws you'd be willing to use for this trip.
If we haven't climbed together before, please send a brief email to garnergraeme@gmail.com describing your sport climbing experience.
Required Items to Bring:
Helmet (no helmet, no climbing)
Harness
Locking carabiner
Belay device
Rock shoes
Warm layers & rain coat
Food & water
(If you plan on leading) Rope, draws, and anchor materials
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
Trip Feedback If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
