Itinerary:

Mt. Alexandra on foot - sounds like fun!

The plan is to head out Thursday afternoon and drive to Golden and then up the Bush-Sullivan FSR to a car camping spot (e.g. Valenciennes River). First thing Friday, drive up the Bush Road and the Rice Brook spur as far as possible. Then the long walk begins using a high traverse above South Rice Brook, an all-day affair on Friday with elevation gain and loss throughout the day and some steeper sections to manage. Saturday, make an attempt on Mt. Alexandra from a camp at the headwaters of South Rice Brook. Sunday, potentially attempt another peak or traverse in the area. Monday, reverse the hike back to the vehicle and drive back to Calgary.

The aim with this schedule is to carry a few days of food, have reasonable length days and have a couple of days in the area after the long walk in. Food and drink should only require hot water, no cooking.

There is low-fifth class rock climbing (in boots), glacier travel and snow/ice alpine climbing. You need to have crevasse rescue training and experience with alpine rock at the grade, alpine snow/ice climbing and glacier travel.

If we haven't been on a similar trip together before, please send me a summary of your related/relevant experience and training. Also get in touch with any questions.

Required Items to Bring:

We will discuss vehicle(s) and gear as there will be group planning required for tents, stoves, emergency gear, climbing equipment, etc. It will probably be easiest to schedule a group call/meeting to finalize plans. You will need a suitable sleeping bag and pad, headlamp, helmet, harness, crevasse rescue gear, mountaineering axe, mountaineering boots, steel crampons fit to boots, rappel set up. There will be plenty of gear to carry but we'll still try and trim down our loads as much as possible.
