Itinerary:

This is a unique opportunity to participate in three days of advanced, highly immersive training in decision making in avalanche terrain in the Roger's Pass / Revelstoke area. A full description of the course and the highly qualified and experienced guide instructors can be found here. Note that this course is not typically available unless arranged for a group like ours.

This is highly recommended for section trip leaders, aspiring leaders and skiers/splitboarders who are looking to build the skills and knowledge to be more active and confident participants in section trips and when out with friends. Active trip leaders and 2023/24 BITS tailgunners can claim their available course subsidy amount to offset the cost. Everyone pays the same $525 (based on six participants) for three field days and evening prep calls before each day.

Before paying, participants will need to fill out a short registration form on the guide instructor website and the link will be provided when you are added to the course. Please send the trip coordinator a summary of your training and ski/split experience, indicating why you want to take the course / what you are hoping to get out of it and highlighting how you meet the following criteria:

  • AST Level 2  or  CAA Operations Level 1
  • Strong ski/snowboard skills (able to ski double black runs at a ski area in variable conditions)
  • Good fitness (able to climb 1500m elevation in a day)
  • At least 60 days experience ski touring.

Participants are responsible for arranging transportation to/from Revelstoke and for each day's outings and for accommodation in Revelstoke (not Golden) on December 3, 4 and 5. Carpooling and shared accommodation options will be discussed among the group.

If there are fewer than six participants, we will discuss whether to run the course at a higher fee but with more time and opportunities to lead and get coaching feedback. Registrations from other sections may be allowed if we don't have sufficient numbers.

A go / no-go decision will be made on September 1, so if you are interested don't delay in signing up.

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.

Trip Feedback
If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
