Come join us in our shop on Wednesday May 15, as we continue to build a backcountry community and produce networking opportunities, while aiming to provide valuable insight, provoke thought, and promote discussion.

Come anytime after 6:30pm to socialize and network - the presentation will start at 7:00pm and aim to wrap up by 9pm.

This month's topic is BEAR/WILDLIFE SAFETY AND AWARENESS TRAINING

SUMMARY:

As bears are coming out of their dens it is time for us all to start thinking about being bear aware and getting prepared for the upcoming bear season. Come refresh your wildlife safety knowledge, learn how to avoid and handle encounters with wildlife, find out easy ways to find important wildlife related information and get some hands-on practice with inert bear spray. There will be time for a Q & A session and we will discuss how you can play a role in improving human-wildlife coexistence.

THE PRESENTER:

Nick de Ruyter is the WildSmart Program Director at the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley in Canmore and enjoys delivering educational programming to diverse groups of residents and visitors! Prior to joining the Biosphere Institute, Nick spent 8 years working as a commercial "bush" pilot in the Canadian Arctic. After hanging up his wings, he continued to work up north managing remote mining camps, which is where he first became involved in human-bear conflict issues while dealing with polar and grizzly bears in camp. In his free time, Nick likes to be outdoors skiing, mountain biking and hiking with his wife and 2 kids.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
