Itinerary:

Bikepacking Tips and Trip Report:

Bikepacking is often simply a way to cover ground through interesting places, with minimal gear and creature comforts. Will (@ratliw) and Rose Ratliffe (@rinrat86) will demonstrate a full backcountry bikepacking setup used for comfortable camping and relaxed touring, including the basics and backcountry glamping additions. In addition, they will present highlights of a 5 night singletrack/trail/road tour through the Slocan in BC.

Will and Rose Ratliffe are lifelong car campers who discovered bikepacking as their kids grew. Always outdoor enthusiasts, they are now passionate year round cyclists. Both are lifelong and very active community volunteers, and Will works part time in the environmental field.

Random Camping 101:

Sara McLean (@sarapolarbearra) is an ACMG hiking guide who built up her backpacking skills by random camping in the Rockies. She loves getting back into the hard-to-reach corners of the mountains and is passionate about helping others improve their confidence in the backcountry. Sara will be discussing random camping in the Alberta Rockies - how to navigate where random camping is allowed, and how to get permits if necessary. She will also discuss Leave No Trace practices and wildlife considerations with a focus on random camping.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.

Trip Feedback
If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
