Itinerary:

This course is aimed at scramblers, rock climbers and mountaineers who want to learn about short roping and short-pitching techniques to deal with 3rd-, 4th-and easy 5th-class terrain.  Topics will include: rope management, assessing terrain features, various body belays, terrain belays, natural anchors and application of techniques on changing rock terrain. 



Required Items to Bring:

Harness, helmet, belay gloves, belay device with locking carabiner, approach shoes (or light mountaineering boots), 30 L day pack, 120 cm sewn sling, 240 cm sewn sling, 3 extra locking carabiners (one of which is a HMS/munter), a couple of non locking carabiners, cordelette.


Prerequisite: Participants should have some experience scrambling and/ or mountaineering and be able to move over 3rd-, 4th-, and easy 5th-class terrain with confidence

Notes:

Sean Isaac is an ACMG alpine guide specializing in ice and mixed instruction.  He has been ice climbing for 30 years and guiding for the past 20.  He is the author of the ACC « Ice Climbing Leaders Field Handbook » and « How to Ice Climb » by Falcon.  He has also written the how-to book « Mixed Climbing » and the guidebook « Mixed Climbs in the Canadian Rockies ».

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
