The focus for this event is going to be mentorship and skills development beyond the technical to enhance your leadership skills.

Mt Columbia is the highest peak in Alberta, and second highest in the Canadian Rockies at 3747m. With correct conditions, we’ll summit Snow Dome or Kitchener on day 2, Columbia on day 3 and ski out day 4.

Ski touring, winter camping, glacier travel, route finding, ice axe/crampon ascent of 40+ deg east face. Participants will take turns leading various legs of the trip. Evenings will include route review and planning for the next day.

The cost includes the guide’s day rate. Please note this is a self-catered event but catering is available from PeakEats at an additional cost.

Prerequisites: AST 1, crevasse rescue, intermediate to advanced level of fitness allowing you to move through mountain terrain, ability to carry a 50 pound pack for 3 days with 1200m elevation gain per day, ability to confidently ski in the backcountry in all weather conditions. Gear list to be supplied prior to the trip. Winter camping experience optional.

The objective is clearly dependent on the weather and avi conditions. The trip will not be cancelled, but the objective/location may be changed.

Friday, May 12 – Big Day. Early start from Calgary to meet at Brent’s in Exshaw.  Drive to Athabasca and ascend to the BC border, set up camp.

Saturday May 13 – Hopefully ascend Snowdome or Kitchener - or skills practice.

Sunday May 14 – Hopefully ascend Columbia

Monday May 15 - Descent and return to Calgary!
