Heart Mount is a short scramble and a short drive from Calgary.

Idea is to attempt the Horseshoe trail (weather dependent).

Required Items to Bring:


-Sturdy/medium stiff hiking boots

-Water & Food for a 4-6hr return steep hike with scramble;

- Bear Spray

- Personal Med Kit

Recommended Items to Bring:


-Gaiters (weather dependent)

-Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat/cap

-Synthetic/Wool Socks as required;

-Waterproof/rain and wind Jacket and Pants

-Warm Jacket

-Gloves/scramble gloves

MENTOR(S) NEEDED, especially for the scramble part.

Mentorship required for: conditions assessment/decision making; protection set up; other important considerations.

Co-Coordinator(s) is(are) invited!

This is a beginner scrambling event and is suitable for experienced hikers with a good level of fitness. These members are strong hikers who are looking to get off the trail and higher into the mountains. Having been on other scrambles would be helpful.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

Weather dependent.

Decision making points:

- Carpool location;
- Trailhead;
- Along the trail as necessary;

- Heart mount summit;

- Grant MacEwan peak summit.

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
