Come out for the day to learn and practice
leading ice-climbs. This course is designed to give you the skills and
confidence to lead ice in a safe and professionally guided
environment. Practice placing screws, mock-leading and building v-threads.
Where? TBD but examples include Junkyards, King Creek, Wedge
Smears or Haffner
The course will be taught by Sarah Hueniken, a
full ACMG Alpine Guide. (See Sarah's brief Bio
below)
Cost: $150 + GST and paypal fees
The course limit is 5 due to the guide brining one outside client: a full course will still have a ratio of 6 participants to 1 guide
Required Items to Bring:
Harness, helmet, ice tools, crampons pre-
adjusted to boots, boots suitable for ice
climbing,locking carabiner
and belay device. Sarah may require additional
items.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Warm belay jacket,extra pair of gloves,thermos
with hot drinks,lunch, sun screen and camera.

Sarah will decide and email the participants 3-4
days before the course.
Notes:
Once you have been approved by the coordinator, you will be moved off the wait list and on to the attending list. At that point you can log in to the website, visit the event page and pay using the 'Pay Now' button near the bottom of the page. Payment is required to confirm your spot on the course.
Sarah Hueniken's brief Bio.
Sarah Hueniken has been living and guiding in
Canmore for more than 15 years. As a full ACMG
Alpine guide, she spends her summers guiding
rock and alpine and her winters guiding ice and
mixed routes. Having climbed for over 20 years, Sarah has traveled
and worked in various places
throughout the US, Mexico, South America and
Asia to explore the mountains of the world.
Highlights have included a first ascent of a
6000m peak bordering Tibet (Sachun 5.10+ M5),
new ice lines in Iceland, participating in various climbing
competitions and achieving a personal goal of climbing 5.13.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
