ROCK REVIEW is an annual season-opener event. The review is an opportunity for beginners to get their feet under them and receive some mentorship, for
members to socialize and join one another on
climbs, and to thaw out our iced-over rock skills in prep for the upcoming climbing season!
The information below is for those who are going to be camping, Friday and Saturday or just Saturday night. You can participate the day events without camping but you still need to sign up for the events.
*Trip Leaders will be posting climbing opportunities separately from the general event - you will need to sign up for these events independently - more events will be posted closer to the event*
ACCOMMODATIONS: + FOOD
We
have booked camping at Rafter's 6 Ranch.
Tents and RVs can both be accommodated. There
are port-o-potties and a fire ring.
**You
need
to
bring your OWN DRINKING WATER and FOOD for the evening and climbing days**
Friday (after 5pm): Come out to Rafter Six Ranch and hang with the group if you'd like. Camping will be subsidized and paid for by ACC for members that sign up!
Saturday AM: Top ropes will be set up in the Wasootch slab area. Come out for some top rope fun or head out with your own buddies for a day on the rock. Check the event calendar for other day-trip events as well.
Saturday PM: More hangout time at the campsite while people make their own dinners; campfire, drinks and shenanigans to follow!
Sunday AM: More fun on the rock. In addition to the trips posted for Sunday, there are usually some plans made Saturday night. A top rope area may be set up, depending on interest and availability of volunteers.
PAYMENTS:The section is subsidizing this event and paying for the camping for ACC members that sign up for the event.
LEADERS: Leaders will post
trips independent of the camping. You will
need to sign up BOTH for the ROCK REVIEW EVENT and for any separate TRIPS (or plan a private trip). Expect some
group TR/cragging events for all levels as well multi-pitch objectives.
MINORS: We welcome
participants of all ages, those 16 and under
must attend with a parent or other designated
adult. All minors (18 and under) should contact
the leaders when signing up.
QUESTIONS: as usual, please
email questions to any of the leaders or the climbing
chair (Chelsea, cldarrach@outlook.com)
**If you are a beginner and others are setting up ropes at a crag all you may need is your harness, rock shoes, helmet and belay device (carabiner, ATC and/or GriGri)**
Weekend camping gear.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Ropes**, draws, trad gear, guidebooks - ACC can provide some ropes but additional ones if you have them would be helpful.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
Trip Feedback If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
