Itinerary:

Meet in the main lakeside public parking lot by the Chateau. First job is to discuss if Surprise Pass is still a good option. If we're going there, the plan is to take the standard access route around Fairview Mountain, where large slide paths must be crossed, then descending into Sheol Valley. We will discuss our observations and decide along the way if continuing makes sense, being prepared to turn back. Ascend the steep slope to Surprise Pass, skinning or booting. If conditions permit, make turns back down to the lake. You will need to be able to keep moving steadily up and down (good fitness) and have strong ski/board skills for the up and down. There will not be an organized car pool but you must be fully (minimum double dose) COVID vaccinated. Please print a copy of the ACC waiver and bring it with you (filled out, signed and witnessed when we meet).

Required Items to Bring:

- Beacon (3-antenna), shovel, probe

- Skis (AT or tele) or splitboard

- Helmet, googles, headlamp

- Room in your pack for group gear

- A couple of long ski straps

- Warm and windproof layers

- Whatever is needed to secure your skis/splitboard to your pack if booting up

Recommended Items to Bring:

- Airbag pack or avalung

- Emergency signalling device

- Ski crampons, ice axe - suggested rather than recommended, likely unnecessary but could be helpful depending on confidence and conditions

Notes:

If we haven't been out together, please include some notes on relevant experience, training, etc.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
