Itinerary:

This course is $600/day for the group, or $240 per person if there are 5 people. + GST

This isn't a snow science seminar although we'll discuss snow assessments and their role in decision making.  We will learn to use tools both new school and old school like Apps on your smartphone, computer and a nice compass to measure slope during trip planning and while in the field. Online pre-trip workshop will help you improve your trip planning ability, identification of avalanche terrain and route planning ability.  This course is intended for people with AST 2 certification who want to refresh or build on their knowledge, especially around trip planning and terrain selection.

Prerequisites: Moderate skill level ability to ski blue runs at a ski hill with a pack. Good working knowledge of your gear. Moderate fitness with ability so ski tour all day comfortably and AST2 course.

This course will follow the restriction exemption program, requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test.

The course cost is $600/day flat guide rate + $300 per participant with a ratio of 5:1. Assuming we fill all 5 spots, that will be a cost of $420/person for both days.

REGISTRATION/PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS

-When you register for the wait list, please email Julie Morter with the following info

  • Confirmation that you meet the pre-requisites
  • Summarize your ski touring experiences

I will approve individuals for payment once we have a full group of 5. That makes it easier to set the payment amount as described above. Each person will be given 5 days to pay, after which the spot will move to the next participant.

The main difference between this course and the one in January is a focus on trip planning/terrain choice here and limited instruction on snow stability tests, instead focusing on how to use stability data in decisions.

Payment Options:
  • Member $252.00 CAD
Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.

Trip Feedback
If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
