Cragging is fun but getting up higher is always an exciting step to take with your climbing. On this one day course you will learn the basics as well as some tricks of how to efficiently manage a multi-pitch climb. The ascent and descent will be covered, as well as ice anchors (v-threads and screws), and tips for setting up a safe belay.
This course is offered on a Wednesday to provide a less crowded environment and reduce risk to the group. Other parties can be a significant risk in ice climbing multi-pitches.
You must be leading easy ice to go on this course. When you register for the waitlist, send Julie an email detailing your history and current level. She will confirm you meet all the pre-requisites for the course.
Required Items to Bring:
Bring all the gear required for a day of ice climbing (harness, helmet, crampons, axes, clothes, gloves, screws) as well as a double shoulder length sling, five locking carabiners, quickdraws, a prussic, belay device and cord. Sarah will confirm the detailed list before the event.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
Trip Feedback If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
