Saturday morning we will leave Calgary and drive to Kananaskis Lakes. We will then ski in 11 kms and set up camp at Aster Lake. Sunday will be an alpine start to attempt the summit of Mount Joffre and then ski the NF back down to camp. After a rest and some lunch we will pack up camp and ski back down to the vehicles.
Participants must have AST1 (AST2 preferred). A high level of fitness is needed and should have experience winter camping. Participants will be expected to contribute to route planning and decision making during the trip.
You should be able to manage diamond level terrain at the ski hill in difficult conditions: wind effected snow, powder, spring snow (hard or heavy & wet), etc. Glacier travel will be required and you must have experience in crevasse rescue. We will likely be using a lightweight (6mm) rope system so you must be comfortable with this system and have appropriate gear.
Given the nature of the trip preference will be given to participants of previous trips. The cost will be approximately $25 a person to cover the bivy permit. To sign up for this event, please add yourself to the waiting list and email Kyle (Kyle.potts@ucalgary.ca) your experience.

Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
