This mentorship event is part of the AMP (Alpine Mentorship Program) organized by ACC Calgary jointly with PeakSTRATAGEM
Cost: $515 and includes 4 days of mentorship with a guide and 3 nights of hut accommodation
*Please note this AMP group will be the only people staying in the huts on these dates.*
This AMP 1-2 event is designed for intermediate ski tourers that want to improve their winter mountaineering skills with the help of a guide. The Alpine Mentorship Program gives participants the opportunity to learn by spending four days with a PeakSTRATAGEM guide. It will challenge your navigation, mountaineering and glacier experience. You will prepare navigation plans, lead the group, navigate complex terrain, analyze and discussing avalanche conditions in real time.
Participants will be expected to review the avalanche bulletin and create a trip plan before departing. The guide will typically be second on the lead rope as participants take turns leading the team across the traverse. While on the icefield we will practice crevasse rescue, route finding and attempt ski mountaineering objectives on route. Evenings will be spent reviewing what was learned during the day and preparing white out navigation routes for the next day. Accelerate your learning as you experience the Wapta!
The cost of the trip includes hut booking fees and the guide’s day rate. Please note this is a self-catered event but catering is available from PeakEats at an additional cost and may be coordinated by the trip co-ordinator
Prerequisites: AST 1, Crevasse Rescue Training, intermediate to advanced level of fitness allowing you to move through mountain terrain, ability to carry a 40 pound pack for 4 days with 1200m elevation gain per day, ability to confidently ski in the backcountry in all weather conditions, and at least some previous experience leading groups.
