Itinerary:

This year we are hoping to formalize our Backcountry Intro To Skiing (BITS) program.  We are seeking ski touring leaders who will commit to being part of the program.  We are also looking for past participants who wish to be the helpers/tail guide.  Kat has been in touch with some leaders directly.

A Zoom meeting request will be sent to those who sign up for this event.  If Kate has already been in touch with you and you have committed to being a BITS leader you do not necessarily need to sign up for this event. However, we do sincerely appreciate your input - this is a good chance to talk about past BITS experiences, what worked, what didn't, what you want to do differently, what can you share with other BITS leaders.

This year BITS leaders and helpers will receive $100 towards a Calgary section course or AMP event.  This is in addition to the $200 leader subsidy already available.  Better yet, you get to go skiing! And, you get to pass some of your hard earned knowledge on to eager participants.  Teaching others to backcountry ski can be very rewarding; it's a great way to give back.

What we need from you:

  1. A commitment to lead a group on 3 ski tours over the course of the winter 
  2. Preferably attend the intro session and this social
  3. A commitment to teach your group the agreed upon stuff - we want all participants to more or less learn the same things

Leader Qualifications:

  1. Currently lead ski tours with the ACC
  2. Have AST 2

Helper Qualifications:

  1. Past participant in BITS program, or
  2. Desire to lead BITS trips in the future
  3. AST 1

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non- recoverable costs).
The Calgary Section of the Alpine Club of Canada is a not for profit / flow through course and trip provider. We organize courses and trips based on member demand and divide any costs that we incur between event attendees. In other words, we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
