Course Content: Learn how to find your way! No need to follow your GPS or your friend, they're just pretending they know where they are going anyway! Join us outside for a day of navigation. By the end of the day you'll be able to find north without a compass (or GPS), match the terrain around you to the map, use a compass to orient the map to north, and take a compass bearing from the map or from the world around you! Phew, that is a lot to cover, but are we ever going to have fun! Topics to be covered include: Map Reading (legend, scale, grid reference, map symbols, map interpretation) Determining a grid reference or UTM How to plan out a route Identifying map features in the field How to take a compass bearing Declination Orientating yourself on the map.

Transportation to Canmore and the trailhead Canmore Kananaskis Gem Trek Map Compass with adjustable declination Here are two links to suggested options (option 1, option 2) Recommended Gear: Gloves, Hat, Warm Puffy Jacket, Long pants, Layers for variable weather, Hiking Boots, 1L of water, Lunch. Dress warm. The focus of the course will be on brain power and not physical endurance. We will be stepping over logs and travelling through thick bush.

It is a first paid - first on the course registration. The course fee is $89.00 which includes taxes. Please complete the following as soon as possible and we will move you to the attending list. We offer the option highlighted below at the "Buy Now" button.

Once this is confirmed the co-ordinator will move you to the attending list.

Cancellation Policy as of March 2017 : If a participant is unable to attend a course or paid trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels a trip, participants get a refund (less any non- recoverable costs).

Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
