Itinerary:

Lift-serviced BITS-friendly / Mellow Ski tour

This trip is to the beautiful Sunshine Backcountry. If avalanche conditions are High or greater, we will tour in mostly Simple terrain out towards Rock Isle Lake and out in the direction of Quartz Hill. We will likely skin up the ski out in the morning to work on our endurance. If the Avy terrain is low or moderate we will take the gondola up and ski off of Standish (probably a few times) and then ski out below Twin Cairns and down Wawa. This is a wonderful tour. We will also probably explore the flats out towards Quartz Hill, but won't go up it. If the avalanche risk is considerable, we will discuss as a group what we feel comfortable skiing. Note that it is possible that this day is more of a mellow tour, but it could also be a fun day with nice turns. The itinerary will include transceiver practice and digging a pit once in Sunshine Backcountry. NOTE: if we take the gondola you will need to buy a lift ticket. They are discounted at Costco.

The location may change based on conditions and weather. In severe High or Extreme conditions the trip may be cancelled

This is a great trip to work on endurance and being on your AT gear. If the avy conditions are favourable, then the turns on the backside of Standish are a heck of a lot of fun.
