Itinerary:

This course is focused on making you a better downhill skier in powder, in the backcountry.  Do you legs burn when going downhill?  Do you find yourself using your outside leg to do most of the turning? Perhaps you find breakable crusts or tight trails through the trees challenging... THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU!  Improve your technique. Have more fun. Be better at what you love to do!  I would personally recommend this course to 90% of the people who ski with the ACC.  I have watched people who have skied their whole lives get noticeably better in 1 day.

This is an AMP Level 1 trip.  You should be able to ski blue level terrain at the ski hill with confidence, and be able to challenge black diamonds, though perhaps it's not pretty. Participants who can ski diamond terrain will get something out of this course.  Brent Peters will be the instructor. He is currently a CSIA Level 3 instructor.

We will spend the morning doing ski drills in-bounds at Lake Louise or Sunshine (TBD) to improve our downhill technique and then we will go ski out of bounds to practice in some real powder (hopefully 800 - 1000m of elevation gain/loss – expect to be skinning up as some point so bring your skins!) Out of bound destinations could be Delirium Dive, West Bowl, Purple Bowl, etc.

The cost is $101 per person plus lift ticket. YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY A LIFT TICKET FOR THE DAY, unless you have a seasons pass.

Please note, AMP events are coaching/mentorship and not courses or a typical guided day. You should be prepared as you would for any non-guided ACC ski tour: know the avalanche, weather conditions, know the terrain, have your gear dialed, be prepared for a full day of mostly non-stop skiing and generally be prepared.

Required Items to Bring:

Transceiver (3 antenna), shovel, probe, ski touring gear (layers, SKINS, shades, headlamp) and warm enough clothing to ski in-bounds in the morning.

How to Get There:
Carpool Departure Time:
Carpool Location:   TBD

Notes:

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
