NOW OPEN TO ASPIRING LEADERS and ALL MEMBERS. - THIS COURSE IS MEANT AS A REFRESHER FOR CURRENT SKI TOUR, SPLITBOARD, AND SKI MOUNTAINEERING LEADERS WITHIN THE CALGARY SECTION. THIS COURSE IS HEAVILY SUBSIDIZED BY THE SECTION

This course is modeled after a guides training which a professional organization would typically run at the start of the year to whip their guides into shape. Packed with three days of learning and practice, this 3-day course with Jeff Bullock, ACMG Ski Guide, will take new and experienced ski leaders to new levels of confidence.

This course will be based out of Golden, with day tours in a variety of locations around Rogers Pass and the Rockies.  Accommodation is included for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening in Golden.  Course instruction days are Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Plan on skiing Rogers pass on Friday and Saturday, so it is best to stay in Golden Thursday evening.

Expect to tour up to 1500m per day.

This course will cover the gamut of ski leadership skills: Planning - area and route selection for the BEST and FUNNEST skiing possible given the conditions. Appropriate gear lists. Snowpack evaluation - active and passive tests for snow stability. Leading Up hill: terrain selection and group management, efficient up tracking, pacing, navigation. Leading downhill: Group management techniques, regroup areas, tree well risks/rescue, finding lost people. Rescue - advanced companion rescue, deep/multiple burials, triage, first aid and site command, crevasse rescue.

*Note, this course is a refresher and covers a lot of material. It is not meant to teach you something from scratch. If you don't know crevasse rescue or companion rescue this course won't teach it to you in depth.
