Itinerary:
Most likely target is the Volcano - McDougall - Old Baldy Traverse Scramble 17.5 km loop, 1,500 m elevation gain, 8-11 h car-to-car. he plan is to drive out to the Evan Thomas Day Use area and do a counter-clockwise traverse of Volcano Peak, Mount McDougall and Old Baldy Peak. In good conditions the traverse is a moderate scramble, although the recent snow, if still there, may make things more difficult. It may be a good idea to bring snow gear such as microspikes/crampons and an ice axe in the car and, based on conditions, decide in the parking lot if we want to put the gear in our packs or leave it behind. There are options to retreat from the ridge if we encounter afternoon thunderstorms. Let one of the trip leaders know if you do not have a suitable rock helmet as we have some spares you can borrow. For more beta / pictures of the traverse refer to this trip report: http://www.soistheman.com/diary/page.php?id=volcano-mcdougall-old-baldy
