Itinerary:

This mentorship event is part of the AMP (Alpine Mentorship Program) organized by ACC Calgary section jointly with ACMG Guide Brent Peters and PeakStratagem. Either Brent or one of PeakStratagem assistant guides will be teaching this event.

This event is for rock climbers who want to learn to safely lead outdoor sport routes.  Specific topics will cover safe lead climbing, lead belaying, efficient clipping and unclipping, safer location for belayers, hazards assessments and will review building and cleaning anchors.

Cost: $104 for the one day course. This event is a great deal compared to other similar events.

Pre-requisites:  Basic outdoor climbing experience up to 5.8, top rope belaying, knowledge of building and cleaning anchors.  Pre-AMP Intro to Outdoor Sport Climbing course is a suggested prerequisite but not mandatory.

Since this event is for lead climbing beginners we will not be screening participants. Who pays first, gets to go. The process to sign up is as follows:

  • Put your name on the waitlist and pay on the same day.
  • Make your payment by clicking the Buy Now button below. You do not need a PayPal account. You can pay with a credit card.
  • Once you have paid, take a screenshot of the receipt PayPal displays and send it to the trip coordinator who will put you on the registered list. Joel Gamache   joelgamache10@gmail.com

Required Items to Bring:

The club will provide ropes. You need your personal gear: Harness, rock shoes, chalk bag, belay device, anchor, draws, long sling or personal anchor, 2 lockers, climbing helmet. PeakStratagem could provide some gear if you are missing any of the required equipment. Make these arrangements directly with PeakStratagem.

Recommended Items to Bring:
All the things you'll want for a day outside climbing: Sturdy approach/belay shoes (no sandals or crocs please), food and water, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, bear spray, camera, etc.

Notes:

This event is the second in a series of four individual courses designed to help climbers progress from indoor climbing, to safely climbing, leading, multi-pitching, and placing trad gear on outdoor rock.  Participants will be selected separately for each course and there is no requirement to sign up for all four.  More experienced climbers can sign up for individual courses based on their current skills and learning needs.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
