The Real Outdoor Climbing Knowledge
Introductory
Training (ROCK IT) program is the Calgary
Section’s introduction to rock climbing
program.
This is for all people new to rock
climbing. No
previous experience in any climbing
activity is
required; however, a certain amount of
basic
fitness for the approaches (max 30min) and
to
carry a backpack with gear to the crag
would be
an advantage. ROCK IT is not a training
program
for your physical strength, but we will
set you
up with the technical knowledge necessary
to
take
part on other Section trips posted on the
trip
schedule throughout the summer like the
weekly
Rock Rage, as well as other ACC day and
weekend
trips. The ultimate goal of the program is
to
take participants from the beginner level
to
self
sufficient climbers who can climb on their
own
and be safe and competent climbing
partners.
All
of the sessions will be posted on the club
calendar, so keep an eye out for them.
This posting is for the Second Session
which
will
be held in the mountains, where we will
start with our hands-on
training. That day we will go over
your personal climbing gear, how to fit
and use
it. We also will learn the first knot, how
to
belay somebody on top-rope as well as rope
commands. We will go rain or shine.
Preference
will be given to members who attended the
first
session.
-Helmets are mandatory.
-bring your rain jacket and don't assume
the
event will be cancelled just because the
forecast
looks bad. If for some reason the event
needs
to
be cancelled, we will send out a
notification
by
3PM the afternoon of the event.
Please make sure you read the entire
program

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
