Itinerary:

The Real Outdoor Climbing Knowledge Introductory Training (ROCK IT) program is the Calgary Section’s introduction to Rock Climbing program. This is for all people new to rock climbing. No previous experience in any climbing activity is required; however, a certain amount of basic fitness for the approaches (max 30min) and to carry a backpack with gear to the crag are required.

All ROCK IT participants must be willing to buy basic gear (Harness, Helmet, slings etc.) and to commit to practicing. Participants who have attended all indoor city sessions will be given preference for the outdoor sessions.

Rock It is not a training program for your physical strength, but we will set you up with the technical knowledge necessary to take part on other Section trips posted on the trip schedule throughout the summer like the weekly Rock Rage, as well as other ACC day and weekend trips. The goal of the program is to take participants from the beginner level to self sufficient climbers who can climb on their own and be safe and competent climbing partners.

This posting is for the First Session which will be a orientation meeting in Calgary so we can answer your questions, set expectations, talk about what climbing gear you need as a minimum, and what that gear is for.

Attendees are pre-screened. To be considered for the program, please send in an email with the following information:

-Why you want to take part in Rock-it -Any climbing-related goals -If you have any previous experience (no experience is required- this is simply for planning purposes) Please make sure you read the entire program description here: http://www.acccalgary.ca/2017/0 4/ rock-it-2017/

If you do not have gear, wait until after this session to purchase it. We will review what gear is required and things that should be taken into consideration when buying gear. There is a club night on the 30th where all ACC members will get 10% off at MEC. This would be a great opportunity to buy any gear that you need.

Required Items to Bring:
If you have already climbing gear, feel free to bring it, so we can take a look at it.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:   We are in the program room, and the booking is for the Alpine Club of Canada

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.

Trip Feedback
If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
