Itinerary:

This trip is part of the BITS (Backcountry Introduction to Skiing) program. BITS participants who are staying in Lake Louise will get first priority, followed by other BITS participants.

It will be slow-moderate to moderate pace trip. Location will be determined closer to the date based on weather, snow and avalanche conditions. Possible destinations include Healy Pass, Chickadee Valley, Skoki area and Lake Louise area.

Purple Peak is about 7.5 km in with 900 m elevation gain from the Skoki parking lot trailhead (near the Lake Louise Ski Resort). We tour up the Skoki Trail, past the ski resort and Temple Lodge, then keeping right we enter the Wolverine Valley. Following the valley bottom up the drainage area we eventually reach the top of Wolverine Ridge and from here we can skin up a rib to Puple Peak.

We may be able to ski that big beautiful purple bowl leading down into the resort, if the group wishes and conditions allow, or ski down our uptrack back through the Wolverine Valley.

Those BITS participants that registered for the overnight stay as a group at the Lake Louise hostel will meet up at the Hostel in the morning, and the rest of us can meet at the trailhead. We can arrange for carpooling once we get our party of 4-8 figured out.

We can also consider modifying our destination if the group wishes.
Required Items to Bring:
The usual ski touring or split-boarding gear, including, of course, avalanche beacon, probe and shovel.

How to Get There:
Carpool Departure Time:   06:30 AM
Carpool Location:   West Valley Carpool Parking Lot
Carpool Directions:   This is the suggested Calgary location for carpooling. The trip leader will be staying in Lake Louise Saturday night, but will help to arrange a carpool for anyone that might be coming from Calgary on Sunday morning.

That is, the carpool and meeting spot is a couple hundred meters east of the new Calgary Climbing Centre on West Valley Road SW.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
