This is an AMP Level 1 trip. We will spend the
morning doing ski drills in-bounds at Lake Louise
or Sunshine (TBD) to improve our downhill
technique and then we will go ski out of bounds to
practice in some real powder (hopefully 800 -
1000m of elevation gain/loss – expect to be
skinning up as some point so bring your skins!)
Out of bound destinations could be Delirium Dive,
West Bowl, Purple Bowl, etc.
You should be comfortable skiing diamond level
terrain at the ski hill, though perhaps you are
not a PRO in this terrain, you can 'manage' it.
Brent Peters will be the
instructor. He is currently a CSIA Level 3
instructor.
The cost is $135 per person plus lift ticket.
YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY A LIFT TICKET FOR THE DAY,
unless you have a seasons pass.
This is an AMP (Alpine Mentorship program)
event organized by ACC Calgary section and Brent
Peters, ACMG. Please note, AMP events are
coaching/mentorship and not courses or a typical
guided day. You should be prepared as you would
for any non-guided ACC ski tour: know the
avalanche, weather conditions, know the terrain,
have your gear dialed, be prepared for a full day
of mostly non-stop skiing and generally be
prepared.
Required Items to Bring:
Transceiver (3 antenna), shovel, probe, ski touring
gear (layers, SKINS, shades, headlamp) and warm
enough clothing to ski in-bounds in the morning.
How to Get There:
Event Directions:
After signing up please send Holly an email
detailing your downhill ski ability and fitness
level. milneh@xplornet.ca . AFTER you have
been approved you need to send a payment to
treasurerAMP@acccalgary.ca and email Holly the
confirmation of payment. If you don’t pay within 3
days of being selected we will move onto the next
participant.
This course is a full day downhill SKI LESSON
geared towards back-country skiing. Backcountry
skiing means all snow and terrain types:
powder, crust, breakable crust. This is a
different ski technique than a groomed run at the
ski hill. We will try to ski a variety of terrain
as well: open, trees, tight trees, etc.
Ever find yourself in the backseat while skiing
powder? Find yourself not weighting both skis in a
turn? Have trouble skiing in powder, or heavy
snow, or even breakable crust? Maybe your legs
burn after 10 turns? If so this lesson is for YOU.
If you grew up logging many days a year skiing
from a young age, have flawless technique and bop
down a powder run like someone out of Warren
Miller video you do not need this lesson. For the
other 75% of the skiers in the club you will find
this most helpful.
If you wish to cancel you must find a suitable
replacement candidate if you want a refund. There
will be no refunds provided by the ACC.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
Trip Feedback If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
