Itinerary:

This mentorship event is part of the AMP (Alpine Mentorship Program) organized by ACC Calgary jointly with ACMG Guide Brent Peters.

Bow-Yoho Traverse became a ski touring classic when the Louise & Richard Guy Hut was built in 2015. Many Calgary section members may not have had the chance yet to undertake this more challenging East - West route on the Wapta Icefield.

Cost: $683 and includes five days of mentorship with a guide and 4 nights of hut accommodation

This event is designed for advanced or intermediate ski tourers that want to improve their skills with the help of a guide. The Alpine Mentorship Program gives participants the opportunity to learn by spending four days with ACMG guide Brent Peters. It will challenge your navigation, mountaineering and glacier experience. You will be preparing a navigation plan, leading a group, navigating complex terrain, analyzing and discussing avalanche conditions in a real life scenario.

Participants will be expected to review the avalanche bulletin and create a trip plan before Thursday March 21.. Brent will typically be second or third on the rope as participants take turns leading the team across the traverse. While on the icefield we will practice crevasse rescue, route finding and attempt ski mountaineering objectives on route. Evenings will be spent reviewing what was learned during the day and preparing white out navigation routes for the next day. Accelerate your learning as you complete the Bow – Yoho Traverse.

The cost of the trip includes hut booking fees and the guide’s day rate. Please note this is a self-catered event but catering is available from PeakEats at an additional cost and may be coordinated by the trip organizer.

Prerequisites: AST 1, Crevasse Rescue Training, intermediate to advanced level of fitness allowing you to move through mountain terrain, ability to carry a 40 pound pack for 4 days with 1200m elevation gain per day, ability to confidently ski in the backcountry in all weather conditions, and at least some previous experience leading groups.
