There is always someone faster than you, likely just not us. Us slowpokes may aspire to be faster but are happy with 200-250 v-m/hour ascent rates. We have stamina, sure, maybe do long days, just not that fast (yet?). If, like us, you are sometimes concerned with holding up faster groups, you may enjoy a relaxed, easy and friendly paced 'slowpokes' ski tour. Come join us!
This is early season ski tour is up to Hidden Lake behind the Lake Louise ski resort: It is about 8 km in and 700 m up, with a fairly fast and easy ski-out back down to the cars at end of day.
We start touring at the Skoki Trail parking lot, ascending Skoki Trail to pass Temple Lodge at ≈km 4. At about ≈km 7 (500 m elevation gain) we reach the rustic old Half-Way Hut, which may be a good spot for a lunch break. The plan is to explore westward from here to nearby Hidden Lake where we may find ≈200 v-m ski lines to enjoy on the moderately challenging SW aspect slopes east of the lake, or on the mellower slopes south of the lake.
Please bring your avy sense so that we can all participate in route selection and decision making when leaving the simple terrain of Skoki Trail.
It may not be fast going up, but it will be fun.
