This mentorship event is part of the AMP
(Alpine Mentorship
Program) organized by ACC Calgary section
jointly
with ACMG
Guide Brent Peters.
This course is two evenings (27th
and 29th) focusing on learning to
navigate in the mountains. Learn how to use a
map and compass. This course will be a mix of
theory and practical outdoor sessions. You will
learn how to develop route plans and white-out
navigation plans geared towards glacier travel
and similar terrain. Expect it to get dark to
simulate a whiteout. The instructor is
Brent Peters from Peak Stratagem.
Cost is $60 per person. PRICE HAS BEEN REDUCED
FROM PREVIOUS POSTING.

You will need the following items for the
map course:- Compass (something
equivalent to: https://www.mec.ca/en/product
/5037-375/Ranger-CL-Hi-Vis-Compass, Ruler,
Pencil, Notebook, Pack and gear for the outdoor
session, Headlamp, Phone/ tablet/ Laptop for
mapping apps, Optional- GPS unit
When looking for a compass, the following
are features you will want:
Sighting mirror, Rugged case,
Declination adjustment, Clinometer, Glow in the
dark

Everyone attending this event will be required to sign the

at the beginning of the event. Read the waiver carefully to ensure you fully
understand it. If possible, please print and fill it out except for
the signature fields before arriving at the event.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
