Itinerary:

This mentorship event is part of the AMP (Alpine Mentorship Program) organized by ACC Calgary section jointly with ACMG Guide Brent Peters.

This course is two evenings (27th and 29th) focusing on learning to navigate in the mountains. Learn how to use a map and compass. This course will be a mix of theory and practical outdoor sessions. You will learn how to develop route plans and white-out navigation plans geared towards glacier travel and similar terrain. Expect it to get dark to simulate a whiteout.  The instructor is Brent Peters from Peak Stratagem.

Cost is $60 per person. PRICE HAS BEEN REDUCED FROM PREVIOUS POSTING.

To sign up for this event:

YOU DO NOT NEED TO WAIT FOR APPROVAL FROM THE TRIP COORDINATOR TO MAKE PAYMENT.  MAKE PAYMENT IMMEDIATELY AFTER SIGNING UP. Send an e-Transfer payment to the Treasurer at treasurerAMP@acccalgary.ca . This payment must be made within 7 days of signing up for the event. If you don’t pay, we will remove you from the waitlist.  When you send your payment also send to treasurerAMP@acccalgary.ca the following information: Name, Full address including postal code, phone number, email, course/event title and date, Trip Leader/Coordinator, and the password to accept payment.  Email the e-Transfer evidence to the trip coordinator – Joel Gamache joelgamac he10@gmail.com Once I have confirmation from you that you have paid, I will move you from the waiting to the attendee list.

You will need the following items for the map course:-  Compass (something equivalent to: https://www.mec.ca/en/product /5037-375/Ranger-CL-Hi-Vis-Compass, Ruler, Pencil, Notebook, Pack and gear for the outdoor session, Headlamp, Phone/ tablet/ Laptop for mapping apps,  Optional- GPS unit

When looking for a compass, the following are features you will want:

 Sighting mirror, Rugged case, Declination adjustment, Clinometer, Glow in the dark


Recommended Items to Bring:

Snacks, lunch, warm layers, windproof/waterproof coat, hat, sunscreen.

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
