Itinerary: |
This program is an introduction to skiing in the
backcountry. It will consist of 3 days with the
intent to progress
into more complex and difficult terrain.
Participants sign up for
all 3 day trips. Day 1 (Jan 19) goes to Chester
lake; Day 2
(Feb 23) Helen Shoulder. Day 3 (March 16) we will
split into
smaller groups and different destinations like
Dolomite Circuit;
Purple Bowl; Crowfoot Pass. These destinations may
not be
split board friendly.
These BITS days are an opportunity for beginning
backcountry
skiers to strengthen skills learned in AST 1.
Opportunities will
be presented for transceiver practice, discuss
current
conditions and observations, decision making,
group
management and trail setting. Trip leaders have
many years
experience and welcome questions.
The BITS Program is not a skiing instruction
program. Participants need to have downhill
skiing ability
to at least an intermediate.
The requirements are that participants have AST 1
prior to attending the 1st trip, which is January
19, 2019. It is
encouraged for participants to also sign up for
the pre-trip
evening session once posted (TBA) that will go
over
Everything you need to know to get ready for back
country
skiing, including gear, equipment, and what to
pack. Sign up
separately for this.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
Participants are signing up for all 3 ski days.
*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
