Itinerary:
Cost for this event is $410 per person and includes three full days of skiing and two nights at the Wheeler hut.

This mentorship event is part of the AMP (Alpine Mentorship) program organized by the ACC Calgary Alpine Chair jointly with ACMG Guide Brent Peters. Brent will be the guide for this event.

For level 1 participants the expectation is that you have done a handful of backcountry ski trips and know how to ski down basic terrain, including being comfortable skiing down in the trees. You have also completed AST1.

The focus for this trip will be to explore a variety of terrain in the Glacier National Park area with an emphasis on trip planning at the hostel, setting a good uptrack, making safe terrain decisions, anticipating challenging terrain, and choosing ski lines.  If you have never skied in Rogers Pass and always wanted to but were too scared of it, this is your chance. You will also learn the permit requirements as part of the event planning.

On Saturday we will leave Calgary at 5:00 am and travel to the Rogers Pass discovery center to get our permits, check area closures, and identify our objective for the day.  It will likely be something in the Connaught Creek area. At the end of the day we will head up to Wheeler hut.

On Sunday we will take advantage of our location to plan an objective, likely in the Illecillewaet or Sir Donald area.

On Monday we will see how the group is doing to determine if we want to ski in the hut area again, head west to Bonny or McGill, or back towards Calgary in the Hermit area.

Since we have 3 days, we should have the opportunity to explore 2 or 3 different areas in this wonderful park.

Participants should be fit enough for three solid days of skiing, expecting objectives in the 1000 - 1300 m range each day.  Participants will need to take the online test required to obtain an annual winter permit for the Rogers Pass area prior to Friday, so we can avoid travelling out to the visitor's center on Sunday or Monday mornings.

Carpooling from Calgary or Canmore will be arranged by the co-ordinator.
