PeakStratagem is partnering with Talus Lodge and ACC Calgary to offer this unique 5 day Avalanche Skills Training 2 (AST2) course.

The price is discounted to $1575 for ACC Members and includes the cost of the course, heli flights in and out, accomodation and food!!

 

Talus Lodge is located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies on the BC/Alberta border.

You will experience 5 days of mentored and  catered ski touring as well as the option to obtain or refresh your avalanche skills with the CAA,  AST2 course. Classroom curriculum will be covered in the mornings and evenings so you can spend more time on the snow, skiing and analyzing the terrain. As part of the AST 2 curriculum you will develop the skills to perform daily forecasts, select appropriate terrain, develop route plans, and lead challenging days while under direct supervision of our experienced instructors.

 

Prerequisites: AST1, moderate fitness and strong intermediate ski ability. Prerequisites are meant as a guideline. Please contact PeakStratagem if you have any questions.

 

"Day 1:

We will meet at 8:00 am in Exshaw, #2 Mt, McGillvary Drive, after which we will carpool together to either Alpine Helicopters in Canmore OR Mt Shark. TBD!!

 Helicopter Flight to Talus Lodge. Companion Rescue training and drills.

 

Day 2-4: Review of forecasts and planning meetings over breakfast. Interactive ski day – we learn while we ski, discussing terrain choices, snowpack and gathering data as required. Expect a full day of skiing. Evening meeting, classroom sessions and social.

 

Day 5 : Half day of skiing. Helicopter flight home. Farewells.
Required Items to Bring:
Field Days: Beacon, Shovel, Probe, AT, Skis or Split Snowboard, Skins, Boots, Poles, Water, Lunch and Snacks, and Warm Clothes.

Recommended Items to Bring:

Treats, Snacks, beverages and a happy smiley face J.

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
