Itinerary:
Again looking for experienced partners to tackle Woolley and Diadem, two 11,000ers that have been on my list for a while. This week weather forecast looks amazing so i am flexible within a day or two but Friday is announced to be super hot which is not a good thing for rockfalls on this trip so I'd rather tackle them earlier than later in the week. Email or call me re scheduling. They are twin peaks encircled by receeding glaciers just north of the Columbia Icefield and west of the Sunwapta River. Visible from the lofty highway viewpoint just north of the Icefield Visitor Center, their uplift blocks any roadside views of Mount Alberta, to the near west. (text stolen from Bill Corbetts book, The 11,000ers of the Canadian Rockies) To learn more...read the book. Trip will be done over two days. Day 1 we leave Calgary and drive to the trail head. After crossing the Sunwapta River - take neoprene socks/river shoes! - we will slog for about 4 hours to a high camp. Day 2: In the early morning we will ascend the SE face of Diadem Peak, traverse the from the summit to the Woolley/Diadem col and ascend Woolley. We will descend to our bivi spot, pick up camp, walk out again crossing the freezing river and drive home. We will be returning late on Day 2.
Required Items to Bring:
Glacier gear, bivi gear, neoprene socks/river shoes, 2 ice axes, 1 pole, a few ice screws each.
