The Real Outdoor Climbing Knowledge
Introductory
Training (ROCK IT) program is the Calgary
Section’s introduction to rock climbing
program.
This is for all people new to rock
climbing. No
previous experience in any climbing
activity is
required; however, a certain amount of
basic
fitness for the approaches (max 30min) and
to
carry a backpack with gear to the crag
would be
an advantage. ROCK IT is not a training
program
for your physical strength, but we will
set you
up with the technical knowledge necessary
to
take part on other Section trips posted on
the trip schedule
throughout the summer like the weekly Rock
Rage, as well as
other ACC day and weekend trips. The
ultimate goal of the
program is to take participants from the
beginner level to
self sufficient climbers who can climb on
their own and be safe
and competent climbing partners.
All of the sessions will be posted on the
club
calendar, so keep an eye out for them.
This posting is for the sixth session,
which
will be our third
outdoor session. It will
be held somewhere at one of the front
range
climbing crags (likely Wasootch or
Porcupine
Creek) there we will start with our hands-
on
training right away. That day we will
practice
skills learned in
previous sessions and work on decision
making
processes and becoming more independent.
Depending on the comfort level of the
participants and the progress made in the
previous session, we may add on additional
skills, or we may simply practice
different or
more complex scenarios in regards to
anchors,
rappelling, belaying etc. We will climb
a lot
to get as much
practice in as possible. We will go rain
or
shine
- bring your rain jacket and don't assume
the
event will be cancelled just because the
forecast
looks bad. If for some reason the event
needs
to
be cancelled, we will send out a
notification
by
3PM the afternoon of the event.
Please make sure you read the entire
program

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
