This
mentorship event is part of the AMP (Alpine
Mentorship Program) organized by ACC Calgary
section jointly with ACMG Guide Brent Peters.
This Alpine
Mentorship Event is for beginner mountaineers.
Beginner mountaineers are people who have been
on a glacier once or twice, can do 3-person
crevasse rescue, completed a 2-day Snow and Ice
course or some of the pre-AMP events and have
done steep snow slope climbs as part of their
scrambling trips. Individuals should also
have some previous experience summer or winter
mountaineering including scrambling (4th class)
and/or easy ice climbing (WI2-3)
You might
have done a few alpine trips such as Athabasca
and want to do more of similar trips such as
Aberdeen, Harrison, Lefroy or similar.
Focus of this
event will be on consolidating safe skills
including rope systems for glacier travel,
crevasse rescue, trip planning and navigation,
alpine snow/ice climbing and scrambling.
Participants will be challenged to create and
execute white out navigation plans to stand on
the summit of Mts Rhondda, Habel, Baker, and/or
Trapper.
Cost: $407
(for all 3 days includes the cost of hut and ACGM Guide).
This
event is a great value compared to other similar
events.
The
curriculum for each day is as follows:
Day 1 -
Drive, hike into Peyto Hut, practice use of
mountaineering equipment, glacier travel each
participant leading a rope, trip planning and
navigation and possibly summit a peak.
Day 2 -
Summit attempt.
Day 3 -
Summit attempt, hike out and drive home.
Since this
event is for beginners who have previous
mountaineering experience, we will be screening
people to ensure they meet the above
requirements. Process to sign up is as follows:
Vi will tell you if you have been
accepted or not.
Once accepted send an e-Transfer
payment to the Treasurer at treasurerAMP@acccalgary.ca. This payment must be
made within 7 days of being accepted. If you
don’t pay, we will move onto screening the

of the line.
When you send your payment also
send to treasurerAMP@acccalgary.ca the following
information: Name, Full address including postal
code, phone number, email, course/event title
